Japan ski resort opening dates 2026-27

For 2026–27, Snow Park Yeti in Shizuoka (23 Oct) and Karuizawa Prince (31 Oct) are already open. Shiga Kogen's Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama follow on 14 November, Sapporo Kokusai, Teine and Hakuba Goryu on 20–21 November, and on 28 November the Niseko resorts, Furano, Kiroro, Rusutsu, Nozawa Onsen and Kagura are all due to open. Most of Honshu opens from mid-December; some, such as Zao Onsen and Kusatsu, have not announced a date yet.

Niseko live cams: Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Annupuri and Mt Yotei

Niseko United is four ski areas on one mountain, Niseko Annupuri: Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village and Annupuri, famous worldwide for its light, dry powder. Hirafu, Hanazono and Annupuri stream their slopes on their official channels, and two more cams show Mt Yotei across the valley and the town.

Hakuba live cams: the Hakuba Valley slopes

Hakuba Valley strings ten ski areas along the foot of the Northern Alps in Nagano, from Otari through Hakuba to Omachi. Happo-one hosted the alpine races of the 1998 Nagano Olympics, and the whole valley skis with the Alps in front of it.

Nozawa Onsen ski resort live cam

One of Japan's oldest ski resorts, rising straight above a hot-spring village in northern Nagano. After skiing you can walk between the village's free public baths, the soto-yu, and on 15 January the village holds its Dosojin fire festival.

Shiga Kogen live cams: Kumanoyu and Yama-no-Eki

One of Japan's largest ski areas, high up with dry snow: many linked ski fields on one lift pass, and a venue of the 1998 Nagano Olympics. Down the valley, the Jigokudani Monkey Park has the famous snow monkeys in their hot spring.

Zao live cams: Juhyo Kogen Station and Zao Onsen

Zao Onsen in Yamagata is known for its juhyo, the 'snow monsters': fir trees that wind, snow and ice turn into giant figures in midwinter, at their biggest in January and February. There are cams in the hot-spring town too.

Kusatsu in Gunma is one of Japan's best-known hot-spring towns, with its ski resort right above it: ski in the morning, then soak around the steaming Yubatake. Watch the Tenguyama summit cam and the snowy Yubatake together.

When do Japan's ski resorts open in 2026–27?

Snow Park Yeti (from 23 Oct) and Karuizawa Prince (from 31 Oct) are already open. Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama in Shiga Kogen open on 14 November, Sapporo Kokusai, Sapporo Teine and Hakuba Goryu on 20–21 November, and Niseko, Furano, Kiroro, Rusutsu, Nozawa Onsen and Kagura on 28 November. Happo-one and Tsugaike follow on 1 December, and most of Honshu from mid-December. The list above counts down to each of the 101 resorts.

Is there a Niseko live cam, and when does Niseko open?

Yes: the official streams from Grand Hirafu, Hanazono and Annupuri, plus cams on Mt Yotei and the Niseko View Plaza roadside station. Niseko United lists 2026–27 as Annupuri and Grand Hirafu 28 Nov 2026 – 5 May 2027, Hanazono 28 Nov – 11 Apr, Niseko Village 28 Nov – 4 Apr, with night skiing 12 Dec – 22 Mar.

Are there live cams for Hakuba, Nozawa Onsen and Shiga Kogen?

Yes. Each area has its own player that switches between its cams: the Hakuba Valley slopes, Nozawa Onsen's Hikage run, and Kumanoyu and Yama-no-Eki in Shiga Kogen. Each area also shows the weather and temperature now and the snow of the last 24 hours and the next three days.

What is the time difference with Japan?

Japan (UTC+9) has no daylight saving. During the ski season Sydney is 2 hours ahead of Japan, Hong Kong, Taipei and Singapore are 1 hour behind, Seoul is the same and Bangkok is 2 hours behind. The slopes look their best from morning to mid-afternoon Japan time, while the lifts are running.
