FAQ

Which seat on the shinkansen has the Mt. Fuji view?

Seat E in ordinary cars and D in the Green Car, in both directions. On the Tokaido Shinkansen the two-seat row (D–E) is always on the mountain side, so Fuji is on your right going Tokyo → Osaka and on your left going Osaka → Tokyo.

How long after departure does Mt. Fuji appear?

On a Nozomi: about 46–48 minutes after Tokyo, 50 after Nagoya, 1 h 26 after Kyoto and 1 h 40 after Shin-Osaka (give or take 3 minutes by train model). The best stretch is between Mishima and Shin-Fuji, especially crossing the Fuji River.

Which season is best?

Winter, when the air is clear, gives the most Fuji days; in summer it is hidden most of the time. Check this page before you leave for the chance at your time.
